CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION - SPECIAL OPERATIONS - SHERIFF'S TACTICAL AIR RESPONSE (STAR) UNIT

STAR

In 1996, through a joint effort between the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, the STAR Air unit was placed into service. STAR is outfitted, maintained, insured, fueled, and operated via asset forfeiture funds. The unit is made available to fly missions for all local, state, and federal agencies. With the ability to have this asset, STAR has flown missions that have resulted in the location of missing persons, escaped inmates, stolen property, aerial crime scene and accident photography, and patrol as needed. The current STAR went into service in November of 2018.
