COMMUNITY OUTREACH - DEA NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION TAKEBACK
DEA's next National Prescription Drug
Take Back Day is October 23, 2021 – 10AM to 2PM

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Diversion Control Division
sponsors the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. According
to the DEA (2021), the program aims to provide a safe, convenient,
and responsible means of disposing of unwanted, unused, or expired
prescription drugs. The program is also aimed at educating the general
public about the potential for abuse of medications.
On the 2020 National Prescription Drug
Take Back Day we collected over 153 pounds of discarded medication
to be destroyed!

While the DEA sponsors the once a year drug take back program,
they welcome and encourage citizens to properly dispose of drugs
not in use all year. The DEA has provided a year round drop off
container outside of the Sheriff's Office main entrance for year
round drop off. These receptacles ensure the drugs do not get into
the wrong hands or into the environment where they can be a danger
to people and animals.
