ABOUT MAJOR MICHAEL MORRIS

    Major Mike Morris was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia and began his law enforcement career in 1998. During his tenure in Law Enforcement, Major Morris has worked in many capacities such as a Jailer, Uniform Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Narcotics Investigator and Criminal Investigator. He has obtained his Intermediate, Advanced, and Supervisory Certifications through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.). Major Morris is a Certified Field Training Officer and a P.O.S.T. Certified Instructor. He has attended classes hosted by the military JTF 610th Security Force Squadron in Narcotics Detection and Interdiction, Special Operations Tactics and Land Navigation. Major Morris is a graduate of Columbus State University's Professional Management Program. Major Morris oversees the Criminal Investigation Division which includes Criminal Investigations, Youth Services, Victims Assistance Unit, Crime Scene Unit, School Resource Officers, Special Operations, CAGE (Criminal Apprehension Gang Enforcement) Unit, LAWS (Land Air Water Search) Unit, and the Sheriff's Tactical Air Response (STAR) helicopter.
    Major Morris has worked several major cases in his career to include the arrest and conviction of a person in 2015 for a 20-year-old "cold case" double homicide that occurred in Griffin, Georgia in 1994. In 2017 Major Morris investigated another "cold case" which led to two arrests and convictions for a 34-year-old "cold case" homicide that occurred in Spalding County in 1983. Major Morris has been nominated two times for the Officer of the Year award by the District Attorney's Office and has received the Teamwork Award from the District Attorney's Office. Major Morris oversees the Criminal Investigation Division which includes Criminal Investigations, Youth Services, Victims Assistance Unit, Crime Scene Unit, School Resource Officers, Special Operations, CAGE (Criminal Apprehension Gang Enforcement) Unit, LAWS (Land Air Water Search) Unit, and the Sheriff's Tactical Air Response (STAR) helicopter. Major Morris is an outdoor enthusiast and woodworker. Major Morris spends his free time hunting, fishing, and enjoying time with his wife and children.
