ABOUT MAJOR ROBERT SOWELL
Major Robert Sowell began the position of Spalding County Jail Administrator on January 1, 2017. In April 2016, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Herzing University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, with an emphasis in Homeland Security. In 2019, Major Sowell graduated from the Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University with a Master's in Public Administration. He retired from the Clayton County Sheriff's Office with thirty years of service. He worked in all divisions of the Sheriff's Office during his tenure, including more than sixteen years in the Jail Division. For the last nine years of his employment with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office he was the Clayton County Jail Administrator. His training includes certifications as a Jail Manager by the American Jail Association, Corrections Executive by the American Correctional Association, and Management Professional Development by Clayton County Human Resources. Through the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council, he also holds certificates as a general and firearms instructor, as well as certifications as jailer, and Specialized Field Training Officer.
