ABOUT SHERIFF DARRELL DIX
Sheriff Darrell Dix began his career in 1987. He has worked, and supervised, in Uniform Patrol, Traffic, Criminal Investigations, Crime Suppression, Narcotics, Office of Professional Standards, and Training. His previous experience includes budgeting, grant writing, internal affairs, community relations, and public information.He holds Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Management, Departmental Training Officer, Field Training Officer, Instructor, Senior Instructor, and Sheriff Certifications. He has additional instructor certifications in Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Impact Weapons, TASER, Full Auto Weapons, and Speed Detection. He attended the United States Army's Counter Drug Special Response Team Course, United States Air Force 610th Security Forces Squadron Special Operations Course, Joint Military Task Force 6 Special Operations Course, and The National Institute for Truth Verification. He is a Graduate of Columbus State University’s Professional Management Program, City of Griffin Leadership Development Institute, Griffin/Spalding Chamber of Commerce Leadership Development Program, and the Georgia Sheriffs Elect Academy.
During his career he has been awarded 3 Meritorious Conduct Ribbons, Life Saving Ribbon, the Police Commendation Award, and Community Service Award for his past work with the Georgia Special Olympics. In 1999 he was recognized by the Drug Enforcement Administration for his achievements in narcotics enforcement. He is a past recipient of the Griffin Daybreak Rotary Club’s Public Service Award and the Griffin Police Department’s Top Gun Award. He was nominated in 2007 for the Griffin Judicial Circuit’s Officer of the year and was named officer of the year for the Griffin Judicial Circuit in 2012. Dix was voted “Best of the Best” by the readers of the Griffin Daily News in 2012. In 2019 he was awarded the “Janet Bragg Courage Award” by The Urban Outreach Association of Griffin.
Sheriff Darrell Dix has been married to his wife Michelle since 1988. They have 2 sons, Taylor and Conner. They are members of Rock Springs Church.
