ABOUT MAJOR RICHARD PHILLIPS
Major Richard Phillips began his Law Enforcement career in 1991. He worked for the City of Griffin Police Department until his retirement in 2018. While employed with the Griffin Police Department, Major Phillips was assigned to Uniform Patrol Division, supervising the Griffin Police Department Tactical Response Unit. He was transferred to Criminal Investigations in 1996, where he worked general investigations and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He is a graduate of Columbus State University's Professional Management Program.In 2001, he was assigned to the joint City / County Drug Task Force. In 2005, he was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration in Atlanta Georgia, Group 3, Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team. He has received training from the 610th Security Forces Squadron, United States Army Military Police School and the Drug Enforcement Administration in Quantico, Virginia.
In 2009, he was assigned to the United States Marshal’s Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. In 2012, he was assigned as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Griffin Police Department Special Investigations Unit, where he supervised all Narcotics, Vice and Gang related Investigations. He was a team leader for the Griffin Police Department SWAT Team. In 2015 he was promoted to Special Agent in Charge of the Special Investigations Unit. In 2017 he was transferred to the Office of Professional Standards and SWAT Team Commander until his retirement in 2018.
